A new name in pumps worth knowing: introducing Wilo to our product lineup.

Wilo has been manufacturing pumps since 1872. That is over 150 years of engineering development, and today the company is one of the largest pump manufacturers in the world with a product line that covers commercial HVAC, plumbing, industrial, and building services applications. If you have not specified a Wilo pump yet, it is likely not because they have not been relevant to the work you are doing. It is more likely because the name has not been in front of you from a rep you trust.

It is now. Merion Pump Company carries Wilo, and we wanted to introduce the line properly rather than just add it to a catalog page.

What Wilo brings to commercial HVAC and plumbing

Wilo’s strength in the commercial market is in high-efficiency circulators and inline pumps for hydronic heating and cooling systems. The product line that contractors and engineers in commercial building work will encounter most often covers wet rotor circulators, vertical inline pumps, and smart circulators with integrated controls and building automation connectivity.

The technology differentiator Wilo leads with is ECM motor technology combined with intelligent controls. Their flagship commercial circulator, the Stratos MAXO, delivers an Energy Efficiency Index as low as 0.17, which is among the best available in the commercial circulator category. It includes Multi-Flow Adaptation, which adjusts pump output to match the actual demand of connected HVAC circuits, and No-Flow Stop, which shuts the pump down when demand drops to zero rather than running continuously at minimum speed. For engineers designing to energy codes and contractors who want to deliver systems that perform well at part load, those features matter.

“Wilo has been manufacturing pumps for over 150 years. The name may be new to you. The engineering behind it is not.”

Where the Wilo line fits in commercial building work

Hydronic Heating Systems

Wet rotor circulators for commercial hydronic heating. Variable speed, quiet operation, compatible with modern boiler controls.

Chilled Water Systems

Inline and circulator configurations for chilled water distribution in commercial HVAC. Smart controls integrate with building automation systems.

Domestic Hot Water Recirculation

Stratos Z series specifically designed for DHW recirculation applications. Maintains water temperature with minimal energy use.

Building Automation Integration

Stratos MAXO supports Modbus RTU, BACnet MS/TP, and Bluetooth connectivity. Works with existing BAS infrastructure without additional gateways in most applications.

High-Rise and Large Buildings

Stratos GIGA inline circulators for large commercial applications requiring higher flow and head performance with the same intelligent control platform.

Retrofit and Replacement

Wilo offers replacement configurations compatible with common competitor footprints and connection standards, making specification for retrofit work straightforward.

Wilo Package Booster Systems for commercial water pressure applications

Worth a specific mention: Wilo Package Booster Systems

One part of the Wilo line we want to put directly in front of contractors and engineers working on commercial buildings is the package booster system lineup. When municipal supply pressure is not adequate for a building’s needs, a packaged booster system is the answer. Multi-story buildings, hotels, office buildings, and any facility where water pressure needs to be reliably maintained across multiple floors and fixtures are all applications where Wilo’s booster packages perform well.

Wilo package booster systems come in two, three, and four-pump configurations with variable frequency drive control, PLC-based monitoring, real-time diagnostics, and remote monitoring capability. All wetted components are 304 stainless steel construction. Systems are NSF-61 and NSF-372 certified for domestic water applications and UL listed as packaged pumping systems. The WiBooster line covers up to 150 PSI rated pressure for standard commercial applications. The CO-Helix series handles higher pressure requirements up to 232 PSI and beyond for more demanding installations.

We are covering Wilo Package Booster Systems in depth in our next article. Stay tuned.

Already have a commercial hydronic system that needs a circulator upgrade?

Wilo as a retrofit and upgrade option

A significant number of commercial buildings in this region are running hydronic systems with older fixed-speed circulators that were installed years ago and have never been evaluated for replacement. Those systems work until they do not, and when a circulator fails, the replacement conversation usually happens under time pressure rather than as a planned upgrade. Wilo’s variable speed circulators are designed with retrofit compatibility in mind, with configurations that fit common existing footprints and connection standards. Replacing an aging fixed-speed circulator with a Wilo ECM variable speed model reduces energy consumption, improves part-load performance, and extends the useful life of the broader system without requiring a full mechanical room overhaul. If you have a building with older circulator equipment and want to talk through what an upgrade would look like, that is a conversation worth having before the next service call forces the issue.

What this means for contractors and engineers working with Merion

Adding Wilo to the Merion lineup gives contractors and engineers another well-supported option in the commercial circulator, inline pump, and pressure booster categories. The line is competitively priced, the product is well-documented with strong technical support from the manufacturer, and the energy performance numbers are real and verifiable against published standards.

We are not suggesting Wilo is the right answer for every application. We are saying it belongs on the short list for commercial HVAC and plumbing work, and that Merion Pump is the place to have that conversation in Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware.

If you have an application coming up where you want to talk through whether Wilo fits, reach out. We would rather have that conversation before the spec is written than after the submittal comes back with a question.

Ask us about Wilo for your next commercial application.

Merion Pump Company carries Wilo pumps, circulators, and package booster systems for commercial HVAC, plumbing, and building mechanical applications across Eastern PA, Southern NJ, and Delaware. Bring us the application and we will help you find the right fit.
